Marvel Rivals' 20250221 patch debuts Human Torch and The Thing, completing Fantastic Four and adding Central Park with ranked and QoL upgrades.

By the time 2026 rolled around, Marvel Rivals players still remembered the February 2025 mid-season patch as the moment the game’s interior was quietly remodeled. The update arrived under version 20250221 after a three-hour server maintenance that began at 1 AM PST, and for one player named Marcus, it felt like watching a midnight current rearrange the shoreline of his favorite hero shooter. When the servers opened, two new figures stepped into the roster: Human Torch and The Thing. Together, they completed the Fantastic Four, and the change landed not as a simple character drop but as a second founding of the game’s competitive identity.

Two New Heroes, One Fiery and One Granite

Human Torch joined the battle as a flame-wielding Duelist, capable of carving out fiery tornadoes and scorching walls that turned open lanes into traps. The Thing, meanwhile, arrived as a Vanguard with a robust health pool and an uncanny ability to protect his teammates. He was less a character and more a granite battering ram wrapped in blue-eyed patience. When he slammed the ground, terrain buckled and enemies were tossed into the air as if the map itself had flinched. With Invisible Woman on the team, three members of the Fantastic Four could share a durability bonus, making the family feel less like a collection of heroes and more like a single, breathing unit.

Central Park Under Eternal Night

The update also introduced the Empire of Eternal Night: Central Park, a new Convergence map that gave the ongoing Dracula storyline a darker, more intimate stage. Alongside the map came a batch of mode-level refinements. An extra 0.5 seconds of grace time was added at the end of overtime in all modes, a small mercy for players who had lost matches because of a half-second drift outside the valid range. In Quick Mode, matchmaking would no longer drag substitutes into a match that was about to end, sparing newcomers from joining lobbies that collapsed seconds later. Loading times were also optimized, which meant players could enter matches more quickly than before.

Quality-of-Life and Ranked Changes

The patch addressed several long-standing community requests. Players ranked Diamond III and above received a “Hide Own Name (Competitive)” feature. During the loading screen, hero selection, and the start of a match, their true identities stayed under wraps, preventing opponents from insta-banning a known main. Marcus had watched high-ranked streamers suffer that exact fate for months, and the change felt like a locksmith quietly replacing worn tumblers inside the game.

For ranked players, Season 1 was split into S1.0 and S1.5. S1.0 concluded on February 21, 2025, at 8:00 AM UTC+0, with rewards including costumes and Crests of Honor distributed accordingly. Players retained their ranks from the end of S1.0 into S1.5. Gold rank costume rewards in S1.5 included Invisible Woman’s Blood Shield and Human Torch’s Blood Blaze. Crest of Honor rewards received distinct designs for Grandmaster, Celestial, Eternity, and Top 500.

Season events also moved forward. Midnight Features II launched, and the first round of the season 1.5 Twitch Drops event offered the “Two-in-One” spray and Hela’s “Great Galaxy” emote. A second round was expected mid-season 1.5 with a brand-new costume reward. Players who purchased the Luxury Battle Pass and redeemed all its rewards could convert leftover Chrono Tokens into Units at a specific ratio.

Technical Polish and Hero Repairs

NetEase Games used this patch to perform a deep sweep of technical problems. NVIDIA DLSS 4 became available with Multi Frame Generation for GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, generating up to three additional frames per traditionally rendered frame. AMD Radeon Anti-Lag 2 reduced system latency, especially in GPU-limited scenarios, and AMD FSR3 Frame Generation received a frame pacing fix. On Xbox Series S, the “Model Detail” graphics setting tier was adjusted to improve performance and stability, while aim assist range and mechanics were refined for more intuitive crosshair deceleration.

A long list of hero fixes followed. Spider-Man could no longer become stuck after falling from the top of a wall. Hulk’s transformation back to Bruce Banner was properly detected by vehicles and mission areas. Doctor Strange’s portals resisted destruction from broken Recursive Destruction objects, and his ultimate effects, control interactions, and terrain-kill credit were all corrected. Iron Fist lost an exploit that allowed rapid consecutive jumps. Loki’s revival indicators, transformation mishaps, and ghostly lingering ultimates were cleaned up. Mister Fantastic had multiple elastic issues resolved, including arm orientation, stretch punch interruptions, and ultimate bounce previews.

Other heroes received targeted fixes: Captain America could now be stunned by Spider-Man’s ultimate during his own ultimate, Squirrel Girl’s acorn hit sound landed with a softer pop, Venom’s ultimate dealt its intended damage, Magneto’s collision model matched his visual effects, Cloak & Dagger could break free from Luna Snow’s freeze after taking damage, Peni Parker no longer stayed stuck in Cyber-Bond animation after being revived, and heroes revived by Rocket Raccoon’s B.R.B. could move without issue. Moon Knight’s bounce attacks and Winter Soldier’s ultimate aim were also corrected.

When Marcus logged off that night, he thought the patch felt less like a standard update and more like a meticulous restoration. The game did not simply gain characters and maps; it shed dozens of small frustrations that had accumulated under the surface. By 2026, many of those fixes had become invisible habits, but their absence would have been felt immediately. The February 2025 patch did not merely add the final members of the Fantastic Four. It gave the game a firmer spine, and the echoes of that work could still be felt more than a year later.
